About AKGCODA

The Guild of Community Development Advocates in Akwa Ibom State (AKGCODA) serves as the collective voice of civil society organisations across Akwa Ibom State. Since its establishment, the Forum has worked to strengthen citizen participation, promote transparent governance, build organisational capacity, and foster partnerships that improve the lives of communities.

Our network brings together organisations working in governance, gender equality, youth development, environmental sustainability, health, education, social accountability, and community empowerment.

To be the leading voice of a united and ethical civil society in Akwa Ibom State.

To strengthen and connect civil society organisations, uphold ethical standards, and provide a united platform for advocacy, accountability, and inclusive development.

Leadership &
Governance

AKGCODA operates through a democratic governance framework guided by its Constitution, Code of Conduct, and approved operational procedures. The Forum maintains transparency and accountability through elected leadership, regular meetings, and member participation.

Tijah Bolton-Akpan

Acting Chair, Interim Executive Committee | Board Chair

Tijah Bolton-Akpan is a development policy and governance expert with nearly two decades of experience in civic space, environmental justice, and citizen engagement. He is the Executive Director of Policy Alert, a Niger Delta-based civic accountability organisation, where he leads programmes on fiscal transparency, extractive governance, and community participation. He serves on Nigeria’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) National Steering Committee as a civil society representative and was unanimously appointed Acting Chair of the AKGCODA Board of Trustees and Interim Executive Committee in August 2025, following a resolution of the Board.

Emem Okon

Programmes/Public Affairs Advisor

Ms. Emem Okon is the founder and Executive Director of Hope for Coastal Women Empowerment Initiative, working in the Niger Delta on women’s rights, gender justice, clean energy, and the socio-economic empowerment of women in oil-impacted coastal communities. She brings strong programme coordination and public communications experience to the Interim EXCO and serves as AKGCODA’s primary liaison with media and development partners.

Emem Joseph Ekong

Treasurer/Financial Advisor

Mrs. Emem Joseph Ekong heads Women United for Economic Empowerment (WUEE), an NGO focused on women’s economic resilience and community-based finance support. She studied at the University of Uyo and brings direct experience in CSO financial management, grassroots economic programming, and membership accountability to the Forum.

Kingsley Atang

Compliance Advisor

Mr. Kingsley Atang is the Operations and Development Manager at Youth Alive Foundation (YAF Africa), where he has managed donor-funded programmes supported by DFID-YPAC, USAID, PIND, and the Ford Foundation. With over a decade of experience in youth development, stakeholder engagement, and institutional compliance, he oversees AKGCODA’s regulatory adherence, governance reform processes, and constitutional review.

Elkanah Oluyori

Secretary

Mr. Elkanah Oluyori is a development practitioner and civic leader with over 16 years of experience in governance, policy, accountability, and institutional reform. He serves as Programme Director at the Clement Isong Foundation (CIF), a youth-led public policy organisation based in Uyo. He leads AKGCODA’s documentation, communication, and membership coordination functions as Interim Secretary and has been a consistent voice in civil society engagement across Akwa Ibom State.

Board of Trustees

Dr. Nsekpong Udoh

BOT Member | Former Secretary

Dr. Nsekpong Udoh is one of the founding members of AKGCODA and has served as Board of Trustees Secretary. A respected civil society leader in Akwa Ibom State, she has contributed to strengthening the Forum’s governance and mentoring younger civic leaders.

Barr. Ekaette Anwana

BOT Member

Barrister Ekaette Anwana is a lawyer and civic advocate. She is the founder of Advocates of Peace, Nature and Gender Justice (APNAG) and has provided legal expertise and advocacy support across multiple governance and gender justice causes in Akwa Ibom State.

Mrs. Emem Nkereuwem

Interim Board Secretary

Mrs. Emem Nkereuwem is the founder of Arts and Skills Development Initiative (ASDI) and has been deeply involved in CSO coalition-building and youth development advocacy. She serves as Interim Board Secretary, supporting governance transition processes.

Dr. Uduak Akpan

BOT Member

Dr. Uduak Akpan is an academic and civil society leader with contributions in development research, institutional accountability, and NGO strengthening across Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom Guild of Community Development Advocates (AKGCODA) is the recognised umbrella body for civil society organisations in Akwa Ibom State.
